I was approached by a client of mine about 6 months ago asking if I could design and build a display case that would hold a number of trophies received by a particular person. I found that this was going to a man that has been in collegiate and professional sports as a player, followed by being a coach for many years to come. It was a number of people that got together and decided to have this built for "their coach". It sounded really cool, so of course I took the project on.
I ended up doing a rough draft, later altered multiple times, as the design continued to be refined. Once done, it was a challenge finding some of the materials needed, among high prices of wood caused by the pandemic. After about 2 months needed to get everything, the work started. Long story short...It was a challenging and successful build! I completed it bout a month earlier than needed allowing many local people to enjoy it.
The day before presenting came, I delivered it to the Ole Miss University, where it was set up, prior to the unveiling the next morning. In the morning I was given the floor in front of the Alumni Board to present this piece. In doing so, I played a video showing the various stages, ending with "We Hope You Enjoy!". The reaction was awesome...not only was this man very impressed and shared his thoughts, but many others appeared to be in awe, continuously acknowledging the quality.
It is this type of response that make what I do fun. It's easy to forget sometimes, but experiences like this remind me this IS why I do what I do. I'm very impressed with the way things went, working among these people that were very service-oriented and genuine. I was then surprised by receiving a football signed by Jake Gibbs, as well as a sports history book where he signed his picture, too.
